Recognizing the rapidly changing cultural, social, and digital landscape, Clark Ohanga saw an urgent need for the Anglican Diocese of Maseno West (Kenya) to adapt its evangelistic approaches. He observed that the Church often struggled to keep pace with evolving societal norms, leaving many nominal Christians confused about how Jesus and His Way of Love could serve as a meaningful guide in their lives. With support from the Episcopal Evangelism Society (EES), Clark organized the Evangelism Summit: Proclaiming the Word in a Changing World, a three-day event designed to equip church leaders to address contemporary challenges while remaining firmly rooted in the gospel.
The summit brought together mission-focused lay and ordained leaders representing various diocesan departments and ministries, including youth leaders, the Mother’s Union, chaplains, and school ministry teams. With a focus on addressing issues such as mental health, sexuality, economic disparity, and the rise of digital congregations, the summit sought to foster innovation, inclusivity, and cultural sensitivity in evangelism.
Keynote addresses and workshops were led by distinguished facilitators, including Bishop Emeritus Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Wasonga and Very Rev. Canon Evans Omollo, who guided participants in exploring themes like faith beyond the walls, wealth and the Kingdom, and understanding sexuality in a changing world. Through collaborative discussions, practical workshops, and newer modes of teaching the Bible, participants gained tools to address societal complexities while proclaiming the gospel.
One of the most impactful aspects of the summit was its focus on engaging the next generation. Workshops emphasized the importance of digital evangelism, mental health awareness, and relational outreach, equipping leaders to connect with youth and young adults in meaningful ways. Participants also explored innovative preaching methods, focusing on how expository preaching can resonate with contemporary issues.
The summit concluded with a clear call to action. Leaders committed to implementing strategies learned during the event, fostering collaboration across ministries, and continuing to innovate in their evangelistic efforts. Reflecting on the summit’s success, Clark noted, “The summit laid a strong foundation for a renewed and innovative approach to evangelism, ensuring that the Church remains a transformative presence in the lives of all generations.”
