
The Rev. Mtipe Koggani, who is from Tanzania, envisioned launching a worshipping community of African diaspora Christians in St. Louis. With strong diocesan support, including meeting space, he has been working to develop a leadership team and to conduct a community needs assessment. He received has received invaluable coaching through the Episcopal Church’s church planting group and, together with his leadership team, discerned that the missional community model was the best fit with the needs of the African diaspora community.
The Grace African Christian Connection Missional Community was officially launched on October 23, 2022 with a vibrant event at Christ Church Cathedral in St. Louis. The Rt. Rev. Deon Johnson hosted and preached. There were African drummers and dancers, and over eleven African and Caribbean countries were represented.
The community has already established a program to support international students. Other priorities include ministry with children and the elderly.
