Evangelical Witness Through Children’s Camps

Ms. Kathy Evans travelled with her spouse, the Rev. Boyd Evans, to Israel and Palestine for ten weeks during the summer of 2016. They worked at several summer camps in Ramallah, Zabadeh and Nazareth, which gave them a sense of the necessities and limitations of these programs. Combining these experiences  with their US camp experience enabled them to contribute to the Palestine Summer Camp Planning Committee. The process of planning for the camp continues at the pace of their hosts.

Evans feels that her work in the West Bank provided Christian witness and promoted peace with children and adults who live with unrest; she was also deeply moved by the Christian hospitality she experienced and the faithful living of her hosts and the children she served. She developed an appreciation for the human rights issues facing Palestinians and is committed to promoting justice there. The final weeks in Nazareth deepened her appreciation for the cultural differences between the two areas, and she enjoyed the opportunity to visit holy sites with the children and explore Biblical themes in context.
