Cross Roads

The Rev. Marcia Sadberry is developing a bicycle ministry that uses discovery rides to build community  between church members and those beyond the church community. She hosted a well-attended pilot ride on Good Friday ‘21, which was repeated as a Stations of the Cross ride on Good Friday ’22. She has a core group of collaborators who will help plan the full season, which will kick off with a St. Luke’s Day ride in October ’22. The season will also include an All Saints ride, from her church to a slave cemetery; another Stations of the Cross ride on Good Friday ’23; and a Juneteenth ride to Galveston and the site of the reading of the Emancipation Proclamation.

Initially, she dreamed of  getting church people beyond the walls of the church, a goal that became ironic when the pandemic struck. She now wants to help the wider church gain insight into the history and experience of the African American community. She’s serving as the Rector of St. Luke the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Houston, an historically Back congregation.
