Co-existence Between Christians and Muslims Through Evangelism

The Rev. Charles Chiutula recruited and trained a group of evangelists from twelve churches in Jali Parish, in the Anglican Diocese of Upper Shire in Malawi. The emphasis of the training was on prayerful preparation, following the model of Jesus, on using non-combative language in ministry, and on preparation for preaching.

Following the training, two open-air revivals were held. Many of the trainees were eager to preach, and the Rev. Chiutula reports that attendance included members from other churches and several from the Muslim community. Others were renewed and revived, and the evangelists were inspired to continue and to communicate with each other.

“It was an eye opener to evangelists that they can preach the Gospel without hurting someone,” he writes. He further reports that, after conversation with Muslim leaders, there are good and peaceful interactions between Christians and Muslims.
