Summary
The Board of Directors awarded 33 grants to 37 individuals, including
26 students, 9 faculty/staff and 2 family members. Twenty-two
of the grants involved international travel. Grants represent

Michael Barham, D. Min. ‘10, Church
Divinity School of the Pacific, to establish a pilgrimage center
in Santiago for “Holy Lingering.”
Debra Bennett and Vincent Black, MDiv. ‘09, Bexley
Hall, to plan and convene a healing retreat for female and gay
male victims of violence and abuse.
Wren Blessing, MDiv. ’09, Duke Divinity School,
to convene meetings of Spanish and English speakers for prayer, study,
and reflection on the Psalms and rural life, and to create a curriculum
for rural churches.
Emily Bloemker, MDiv. ‘09, Berkeley Divinity School
at Yale, for reconciliation work with poor women in Sudan, and
to help Americans understand the lives of Sudanese Christians.
Theresa Brion, MDiv. ‘09, Episcopal Divinity School,
to develop and implement a curriculum using the MDG’s as the linkage to
Appalachian issues of hunger, health care and illiteracy.
Peter Crumlish and Stephanie Johnson, MDiv. ’10, Berkeley
Divinity School at Yale, to build relationships between Berkley
Divinity School and St. Nicholas Seminary in Ghana, with the goal of
creating a future exchange program
Shelley Denney, MDiv. ’08, Church Divinity School
of the Pacific, to establish a women’s sewing co-op in El Salvador,
which will provide income and bring people to church.
The Rev. Ann Franklin, Staff, Episcopal Divinity
School, to lead Bible study and religious education programs
in villages in Israel and Palestine and to offer small group leadership
training for village lay leaders.
The Rev. Jim Friedrich, Spouse, Church Divinity
School of the Pacific, to hold events at Ridley Hall and
at Guilford Cathedral (UK) on the use of film/video in mission and worship.
Debbie Hawkins, MDiv. ’09, Church Divinity School
of the Pacific, for language immersion and delivery of Christian
education materials and teacher training in El Salvador.
Joanna Hollis, MDiv. ’09, Church Divinity School
of the Pacific, to intern with the chaplains at Rikkyo University
in Japan and to assist the chaplains in identifying and negotiating
their role at the university.
Jane Jeuland, MDiv. ’09, Berkeley Divinity School
at Yale, to do the planning, the grant writing, and the community
organizing to start-up an after-school program pilot and to increase
two youth outreach programs at inner-city St. Andrew’s, New Haven.
The Rev. Arnold Klukas, Ph.D., Faculty, Nashotah
House, to research and write a book and multi-media kit for historical
and contemporary liturgy.
Justin Lanier, MDiv. ’10, Church Divinity School
of the Pacific, to study Zen Buddhism and contemplative Christian
practice in Japan to create a program to engage the post-modern interest
in personal spirituality.
Everett Lees, MDiv ’09, Episcopal Theological Seminary
of the Southwest, to attend small group leader training and to
implement small group ministry in a parish setting.
Dorothy Linthicum, Staff, Virginia Theological Seminary,
to return to the College of the Transfiguration in Grahamstown, South
Africa to create curricula for teaching youth ministry, adult education
and the catechumenal process.
The Rev. Canon John Macdonald, Faculty, Trinity
Episcopal School for Ministry, to study youth culture in Madrid
in order to provide the foundation for an evangelism strategy for that
population.
The Rev. Elizabeth Magill, Staff, Episcopal Divinity
School , to affirm and empower the faith of homeless adults by
adding a musician to the outdoor worship of Worcester Fellowship, beginning
weekly bible-study, and holding a monthly community meeting.
Lisa Mason and Gayle McCarty, MDiv. ’09, Episcopal
Theological Seminary of the Southwest , for immersion and evangelism
in Belarus, with those previously oppressed by Soviet power.
The Rev. Judith McDaniel, Ph.D., Faculty, Virginia
Theological Seminary, to investigate contextual formation and homiletic
education in the larger Anglican Communion by spending one month in
Israel.
The Rev. Daudi Ndahana, Student, Nashotah House, to
travel to Tanzania to teach, preach, and hold seminars on his experience
of the American Church, especially the theology and worship of the catholic
tradition.
Julia Perez-Kennedy, Staff, Episcopal Divinity School, to
develop a pilot support group for homeless women and women from EDS.
Eric and Therese Ryniker, MDiv. ’09 and Spouse, Sewanee,
for immersion and evangelism in South Africa. Eric will do field
education at the Cathedral in Grahamstown and participate in the Contextual
Theology Programme at the College of the Transfiguration; Therese will
work with medical relief to explore diseases and public medical issues
in South Africa.
Sandra Seaborn, MDiv. ’09, Virginia Theological
Seminary, to participate in a month-long cross-cultural immersion
in order to gain greater awareness of the role of women in the Ugandan
Anglican church.
Sara Shisler, MDiv. ’08, Berkeley Divinity School
at Yale, to participate in the Contextual Theology Programme at
the College of the Transfiguration in Grahamstown, South Africa.
The Rev. Steve Smith, Th.D. ’12, General Theological
Seminary, to teach, study and network at Leonard Kamungu Theological
College in Malawi.
Dr. Kathleen Henderson Staudt, Adjunct Faculty, Virginia
Theological Seminary, to work with several Episcopal college chaplains
and young adult groups to develop a workshop and web resources on vocation
in the world for young adults.
Sarah Turnblom, MAR ’10, Trinity Episcopal School
for Ministry, to produce a series of guidebooks to major metropolitan
art museums which examine the presentation of the Gospel among selected
works in the permanent collections.
Andrew Van Kirk, MDiv. ’08, Princeton Theological
Seminary, to develop and test a curriculum exploring God’s work
among God’s people through the lens of Biblical typology.
Joy Willard-Williford, MDiv. ’09, Sewanee,
to develop, lead and serve as chaplain for a “You Must Be Born Again”-themed
trip for middle-school aged children from an impoverished neighborhood
in Melbourne, Florida.
Suzanne Wille, MDiv. ’09, Berkeley Divinity School
at Yale, to participate in the Contextual Theology Programme at
the College of the Transfiguration in Grahamstown, South Africa.
Connie Wilson, Staff, Seabury, to travel to
Renk Diocese in Sudan, filming the work of the Episcopal Church and documenting
the impact of the church on the lives of the Southern displaced and persecuted
peoples.
Kim Woodbury, MDiv. ’10, Berkeley Divinity School
at Yale, for training in total common ministry and to implement
this model for evangelism in parishes in the Dioceses of Connecticut
and the Virgin Islands.
